Re: Melbourne woman drowns at Phuket beach after ignoring warning signs

Sad story but I'd always assume the colour red means danger. I'm sure the no swimming flags in the UK are red. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Better get your affairs in order... quickly!

This takes into account the change from the Julian calender and the changes in the Gregorian calender (dropped 11 days for starters)!!
Ridiculous!

Re: GBP vs THB

Does any poster have really serious plan to return to the UK if the baht gets below a certain level, say 40. I group of British guys that I know had this conversation some time ago and all agreed, below 45 and they are gone, but they are still all here. Only one person I know and as I previously po...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Went to a couple of my local bar/restaurants today. One had her 'old stock' bottles marked so she knew which were old price. Both wholesellers had told them that 2.66 baht tax was on all bottles, large and small. With a bit extra for the increased VAT they rounded up an increase of 5 baht for all be...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Once the cask is tapped it needs to be sold in a couple of days otherwise the Guinness becomes less fresh and vibrant. Whenever I go to UK my brother usually keeps a couple of cans of draught guinness in his fridge .....

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Well after tomorrow, a pint here is not going to be cheaper than 'back home'. But when you're on a 2 week holiday, who cares!

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Well if all the news coming from various sources today is true, a large bottle of Chang will be cheaper in London. Most supermarkets are selling large Singha and Chang at 2 quid or less. Buy half a dozen and it comes down to around 1.50 Must ask my daughter to bring some Thai beer the next time she ...

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Playing cards now are between 300 - 500 baht. God knows what they'll be with the new tax. Now I understand why 'er indoors bought a couple of dozen packs at the border when we were leaving Laos. I think she paid 100 or so for ten packs!

Re: Hundreds of city cops fail traffic test

There are plenty of targets driving around without helmets, licences and current tax so no need to look for more. Or maybe look for the more dangerous drivers on the wrong side of the road, going the wrong way around roundabouts, driving the wrong way up one-way streets etc. But for that you'd need...

Re: Hundreds of city cops fail traffic test

This is a direct repeat of the same exercise some years ago. Then 12% of BKK traffic cops failed the test and the outcome was the same. They were not allowed to issue tickets until they had resit and passed.

And for every success story there's one who got relieved of a wad of cash, or worse. Not worth the hassle.
