Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
My own view is that two threads is a good idea but not any more. We have a lot of people on the forum who are not able to n Thailand but can offer good input . Yes, there are the pro and anti lobbies but also a good amount of fence sitters like myself. Saw a few ads for e-scooters or PCX trikes lat...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Well, considering I only bought a new car last year, nothing here will affect me for a while. But currently, an EV wouldn't suit me, primarily down to range and availability of recharging facilities (well NE of Bkk). So my interest is more about the next few years, although still interested in what...

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand
Reading that tells me they don't want you to be independent of the grid. And if home all day, you probably won't have much excess to sell back to the grid, if that's even going to be available.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
At the moment, the Atto 3 is looking the favourite for me but I'll probably be buying early next year and there are many new models in the pipeline so I'm looking at anything that comes along. Actually, I've no interest in long distance driving and something like the Netta V or the BYD Dolphin woul...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
To be honest, I would be far happier if this thread was just about the EV cars available in Thailand and which one to buy but it's full of endless posts from people who clearly have no interest in them. That would be nice, and maybe a new thread needs to be started .. "EV in Thailand", as...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
At root, I suppose the underlying issue is one of energy density. A 500kg Tesla battery contains half the kw/h of energy than a 20 litre jerry can of petrol. Nothing can be done about it. I think that just shows how inefficient petrol is burned. 1 L petrol = 9kWh (diesel 10kWh) Not sure what you ma...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I've followed this debate but haven't contributed and will remain on the fence for now ( we have and need a truck , so you're not going to convert me). Got 3 possible models coming, end of this, or next year. Ours is only a couple of years old so not gonna happen for at least a decade - we'll see h...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
But in TH, unless actually needing a truck, (2 options coming next year) I think people are crazy if their next new car here is an ICEV. https://thedriven.io/2024/05/14/nearly-all-major-car-companies-are-sabotaging-ev-transition-and-japan-is-worst-study-finds/ Interesting if true. :duck: Agree 100% with that premise. Too much profits for them to lose by going EV, both big oil and car manufacturers. Big oil, obvious loss income, and ...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
Its going to take decades to bring this charging infrastructure up to meet demand in Thailand if everyone goes out and buys an EV. Absolutely! Do not even need 50% EVs on the road! It has nothing to do with the countries (EGAT) generating capacity, or the reserve capacity, the existing distrubution...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
In the UK I’ll keep my petrol-hybrid for the foreseeable. In Thailand I don’t drive and never have or will. My view is that battery cars are a dead end; those who want one will buy one but ICE remains far superior for most users. Please tell us how or why you think they are superior. I've own / own...

In the EV future, Thailand, the ‘Detroit of Asia,’ could be a key China hedge for automakers https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/12/with-evs-the-detroit-of-asia-wants-to-be-china-hedge-for-automakers.html “Thailand is a possible path to China-like auto parts costs, allowing low-cost production,” says Crai...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
I'm surprised nobody has actually posted any info from the RD on what is expected. RD will be looking at all income from overseas, Thais and expats (anyone residing here 180 days of the year) <snip> In other words, nothing has changed except the bit about when the income is earned. Those of us with...
