Re: UK bank closing accounts for customers living in Thailand

Buksida, have you received your debit card by post yet? I've been waiting over two weeks and I'm starting to worry something has gone wrong with my application.

Re: UK bank closing accounts for customers living in Thailand

Burksida "I have two accounts in the UK and don't use a Thai address for either, if you don't tell them, they won't know. Will give Starling a go though." I think the banks do know, maybe from the account transactions or from HMRC. I'm thinking it creates more costs and work for the banks,...

Re: UK bank closing accounts for customers living in Thailand

Pagey, I had an application for an account accepted by Starling Bank, although the debit card has not arrived yet. The letters I received from Santander actually said "Unfortunately we are not able to give you further information about how we've made our decision" Charming. The account had...

It also has sporadic VIP flights from Thailand and overseas. It maintains a full safety, re-fueling and Air Traffic Control capability.
As has been reported previously, there are intentions to increase commercial activity, but COVID set these plans back by quite a few years.

Re: UK bank closing accounts for customers living in Thailand

That sounds like an option Henry 14th, thanks.

One possible worry, high street UK banks are backed by the government, so if they go bust you get up to 80K back, I need to check if Wise has this backup.

Re: UK bank closing accounts for customers living in Thailand

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I'm not too worried about capital gains at this stage. I'm concerned that if I don't have a UK current account it's difficult for me to handle my finances. I need another UK account.

Re: UK bank closing account.

Did anyone find a solution to a UK bank closing the UK account of a customer based in Thailand? I'm with Santander, and they seem to have noticed I'm in Thailand. They also mention HMRC, and me being classed as non-UK resident. (Even though I pay UK tax and my Santander account has money coming in a...

Re: Electronic cigarettes/vapes in Hua Hin and Thailand

Only in Thailand.

Vaping is illegal, but smoking Cannabis* is legal.

I'm personally not interested in either, but don't mind what others do as long as I don't get the smoke/fumes.

Re: Amateur Astronomy

I also have an interest in Astronomy. I use an app called SkySafari and amuse myself finding Jupiter and Mars ect.

If there was a Hua Hin club I would probably join, as in five years in Hua HIn I haven't joined anything yet

Another I don't think has been mentioned.

เข้า or Koa, short with a falling tone means enter.

Not to be confused with ข้าว, meaning rice which is long with a falling tone.

Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand

I agree with Dannie Boy, start 9 months before expiry. (Mine was full and actually had 18 months to go) I made an appointment at Trendy Building, Bangkok for mid-August 2022. Took all the required paperwork and collected my new passport one week ago. Mid November 2022. If you don't want to visit Ban...
