Re: The AI (artificial intelligence) thread

I know little of AI, quantum computing, etc, and at my age (65) I probably don’t need to worry. But I am concerned about my children and grandchildren.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

In a warm climate like Thailand, does the AC have a big effect on performance? No, and unnoticeable. Actually uses very little, as we'll leave the dog in the car, running, AC on high, and it uses very little, about 2% or about 7 kms of range, in the span of an hour. Dog in car while we stop at Swen...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

German car giant BMW is expected to announce plans to invest hundreds of millions of pounds to prepare its Mini factory near Oxford to build a new generation of electric cars. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-66745660 Only because BMW are being bribed with huge amounts of taxpayer’s money. Does anyone have an idea when or if BA will fly to BKK again direct from London?

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Why would anyone want to buy a Chinese-made (slave-labour made) poor quality, fire prone, EV that will be worthless on the used car market? I remember my father rubbishing Japanese cars in the 1970s and now I've got a Toyota, a Honda and an Isuzu! Fair point but in the 1970s there was a lot of loya...

Russians, in my experience, are the worst farangs. Loud, rude and selfish. And tight-fisted.

Re: Marriage and protecting UK Assets

Hi, I'm planning to marry a Thai lady. We have been together for about a year. I don't have any assets in Thailand, but I have a property in the UK and a couple of modest pensions from UK institutions. We both live in Hua Hin. If the marriage doesn't work out, are my UK assets at risk? From my rese...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

All I want to add is…EVs are garbage. Witness hundreds of acres of abandoned EVs all over China. Witness ship fires caused by faulty EV batteries. No one wants them. Don’t be a fool; avoid them like the plague.

I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how well-off most of us farang are compared to Thai people in general.

Battery technology is progressing fast.
At the moment, though, they are simply a poor choice for most people.

Re: GBP vs THB

And yet interest rates are still low by any historical standard. When I bought my first house in 1982 I was paying 15% interest on the mortgage. A base rate of 5.25% is barely high enough, I would suggest.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

No matter how often EV enthusiasts post nonsense on here there’s still no getting away from the fact that the vehicles are poor value for money, range-limited and unreliable. Most of us think they’re crap.
