Re: Transferwise Mastercard
TW's card will work fine in ATMs, but you will be charged the ATM fee (220) and after the first €200 withdrawn you will also be charged an extra 2% by TW. Note that TW cards use the TW rates to convert between currencies. That means you're paying around 0.35-0.5% in fees every time you pay or withdr...

Re: How to obtain a house Yellow Book
Different provinces and even amphurs have different requirements. If you're married to a Thai then it's worth checking out the requirements at the wife's amphur and get it done on the next visit if they're more lenient. Regardless, I've yet to see a DLT that refuses to issue/renew licenses (5yr or o...

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers
I tried TW again for a 5600USD transfer. They wanted 40.67USD plus their cut on the conversion rate. I went with my bank and the standard 40USD. Conversion will be done at BKK Bank. Usually costs me an extra 10USD. I guess my post above went over your head. You just lost yourself some money. Summar...

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers
"There's no guarantee it'll keep showing as international in the future though." What a ridiculous statement, there is no guarantee the sun will come out. "Most banks show them as domestic." Which banks? Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn and Ayudthaya all show as international transfer. I ...

Re: Itinerary for a road trip to Laos
I've done it recently, entered at Nong Khai, and exited at Huai Kon (Nan province). Vientiane is okay for a bit of exploration. There are some lesser known waterfalls to the east, which we enjoyed finding and exploring (helps a lot if your partner speaks Issan). The mountain road from Vientiane to V...

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers
BBL currently shows TW transfers as international. There's no guarantee it'll keep showing as international in the future though. Most banks show them as domestic. TW is definitely more favorable for UK than US. UK 5000GBP fee is 27+. US 5000USD is 40+. Which is more than my bank charges me. If you ...

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers
Turns out, Transferwise would not save me any money. In fact it costs more. My bank's fee is 40.00USD regardless of amount wired. Transferwise was over 40.00USD for 5000.00USD transfer. For Americans the best way to bring in money is via ATM withdrawals with 0% FTF and ATM-fee rebates (such as Schw...

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers
Maybe they penalise transfers from the US, but my £ transfers are very favourable. Check the exchange rate as well. TW doesn't penalize any currency. It's Thai banks that penalize GBP by taking a *huge* spread from the interbank exchange rate. The spread is so huge that even with the 1%+ fee, TW tr...

Re: Shop selling cheap luggage?
There's a small shop selling luggage on the road parallel to the rails, 200m or so north of the station. Drove past there yesterday and they had a bunch of samples set outside with price tags.

Re: Opening a foreign currency deposit account at a Thai bank
I have a BBL FCD in USD. No maintenance fees. Easily manageable online. Instant automatic conversions during business hours. Stupidly low interest, of course. Depositing/withdrawing actual paper cash is expensive, but I almost never need to do that. Only the head office opens these, btw, so whatever...

Re: Brandnew Huawei Nova 3 for to sell
Oh, you might be able to get a VAT refund on your purchase (comes out to a little over 1000 baht), so selling it in farangland might really make more sense.

Re: Brandnew Huawei Nova 3 for to sell
A brand new Nova 3 in MBK is 12,000 (a Nova 3i is 7400, btw). The knickknacks you got extra are not worth much to potential buyers unfortunately. You will probably need to sell it for less than you had hoped, or try your luck in farangland.
