Re: Passport Size Photogrpahs
There's a Kodak shop on Phetkasem Road (west side) between Soi 68 and 70. They do the photo in a room at the back and print them out - be sure to specify what colour background you want. Should you require, they will also photoshop your head onto a body wearing a uniform to produce a photo for an ID...

Re: Dyeing Curtains
Do you know what the fabric is? Synthetics don't take dye well. Even if the fabric is, say, cotton, they may be sewn with polyester thread - so you'd be left with pink stitches on your dyed curtains.

Re: Mirabelle French deli on Soi 94
The French boucherie (soi 90?) seems to be surviving well enough. I haven't been there myself for ages, but Mrs D-M is a regular customer for a burger, steak or a really nice joint of pork to roast. I do hope that places like this find a way to get by, as they add to the quality options available. ...

Re: Why do farang buy bars?
I don't know, but I imagine people underestimate the time and effort that it will take - long hours, 7 days a week, always having to be cheerful and friendly even if your customers are complete d****s, constantly dealing with bureaucracy and unreliable suppliers and maybe troublesome staff. They onl...

Re: Mirabelle French deli on Soi 94
It seems a shame, but I guess not surprising. I only found it by a Facebook ad of all things, and when I got there I wasn't sure it was open as I couldn't really see inside very well from the pavement. In Europe shop doors are often ooen and it's more if an invitation to enter - with aircon you can'...

Mirabelle French deli on Soi 94
I can't believe I 've only just stumbled across this place, only 10 minutes walk from home, 2 weeks before we leave Hua Hin - it has the best (French) cheese porn I've seen since Singapore, and it's not unreasonably priced, eg brie B900/kg (Brie de Meaux is more but even the ordinary is nicely squid...

Re: Best way of travelling Hua Hin to Koh Samui and return
Lomprayah catamaran Donsak to Samui in 45 mins.

Just looking at a map I'd have thought the bit of water between Donsak and Samui would be more sheltered than the stretch between Chumphon and Ko Phangan?

Re: Best way of travelling Hua Hin to Koh Samui and return
Oh yes, sorry I'd wiped that option from my mind as I don't do 4 hour bus journeys. Also it's a much longer and generally rougher sea crossing, it appears.

Re: Best way of travelling Hua Hin to Koh Samui and return
I've not done it, but am looking at similar plans. It seems to come down to a choice between:- 1) train to Surat Thani then bus 68km to Donsak and ferry or catamaran. The catamaran company, Lomprayah, appear to provide bus transfer from Surat Thani station to Donsak connecting with the overnight tra...

Re: Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
On the sand like people do everywhere else in the world... I lived near the beach in California and even closer in Florida and I never saw pre installed umbrellas or chairs except directly in front of a few resorts, and then they sat them up one at a time as asked or paid for. Normally people the w...

Re: Hua Hin Immigration clampdown on ID and 24hr reporting
Well I've just read this on TV 3. Immigration does not provide any kind of ‘stamp’ verification on a photocopy of a passport as announced at the meeting yesterday. Therefore, you are required to keep your original passport with you at all times as per point #1 above.. Well that's all very well, but...

Re: Hua Hin Immigration clampdown on ID and 24hr reporting
24-hour reporting Hua Hin Immigration is from today also enforcing the requirements that you and your landlord (condominium owner, house owner etc) must report to Immigration within 24 hours of moving in to a new address. On your arrival card you already reported your place of stay, and if that cha...

Re: Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
It's a good idea to cleanse the beaches of illegal touts, ad hoc micro business types, opportunist sellers, criminally dishonest rental services, rubbish, leeches, piss-takers and many other things that annoy holiday makers who just would like to chill and be left alone by the beach. One of the rea...

Re: Prachuab officials to reorganize Hua Hin beach
I don't know what it's like in high season, but at the moment the only place where I would want to see some clearance is near the Hilton where the furniture completely obstructs the beach. If they clear everything it just adds to the 'tourists not welcome here' impression.
