Re: Chiang Mai Listed Where Couple Can Retire for US$1,500/month
This article, ironically from last year, explains the problem and why nothing ever gets done about it: How Chiang Mai became the world’s most polluted city https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/4/12/how-chiang-mai-became-the-worlds-most-polluted-city “The problem is very much tied to the big agricultu...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?
....... We don't eat out that often because we don't like all the sugar that goes into local restaurant/takeaway food, which is also often cooked with msg and nasty palm oil (but that's all food for another thread.) For sure, healthy eating can be expensive. In Luxembourg they have a chain of small...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?
:offtopic: this thread is about FOOD SHOPPING - not restaurants which we know are cheaper in Thailand because they don't have the high rents/overheads/taxes/regulations/hygiene standards/staff wages/etc..... Yes but because restaurants are so cheap in Thailand, I hardly do any food shopping compare...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?
In general the 'cost of living' is much cheaper in Thailand even for 'farang' food. Tell me anywhere in the UK where you can get a full English for the same price as here. I have no complaints. That's the biggest difference to me, when I'm in Europe, I eat out in restaurants two or three times a mo...

^CJ seem to be one of the main suppliers of Carabao branded beer, certainly it's where my local bar in Hin Lek Fai gets it from.

Re: Travel: Asia & Further Afield
^I hope to get to Strasbourg for a weekend this year as it's not too far away for me.
I did once visit many years ago but I only had a couple of hours there as I was driving across Europe at the time.

Nancy is a pretty normal French city until you get to the centre, where it goes all Louis XVI:

Re: Travel: Asia & Further Afield
^What I've found recently in Europe is that these apartment type hotels can be a really good deal, you get basically a double room but with a kitchenette as well which can be handy. It gives you the option of eating in if you want which I find makes life easier if you can't be bothered to eat out. I...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
^Judging by the number of electric cars around Hua Hin, this doesn't seem to be a major concern with Thais.
I'm interested in driving off solar electricity and I can't really imagine China stopping cars in Thailand, even if it's technically possible.

^Over the weekend with the Bangkok crowd in town, I was surprised at how many Teslas were on the roads.
I saw at least four yesterday, including one in a very noticeable iridescent green colour scheme which might be considered a bit brash if you're not a youth anymore!

Re: Asia & Further Afield
I have regular weekends away from Luxembourg when I'm working and I always manage to keep it reasonably cheap as it's basically nonessential travel. In the last year or so I've been to Valletta in Malta, which is a beautiful historic city, Lisbon which I also enjoyed and several cities nearby, Trier...

Re: The SUV Thread
Actually, I forget what a baht is worth, it's about 40,000 euros which doesn't get you much in the way of a 4WD SUV these days, so maybe it's pretty cheap!
