Re: Thai Hotels Association concerned over popularity of Airbnb

UBER cars and AIRBNB are part of the same phenomena. People making money by using their own assets whivch are not being used. The level of personal interaction is part of the attraction. It worked when it was like that but if you look at Airbnb listings for many cities now, they are full of cheap h...

Re: Hua Hin's most dangerous pedestrian crossing

It's a bit of an extreme solution but when I lived in Jakarta about twenty years ago they forced people to use pedestrian bridges on some major roads by putting fences down the central reservations. There were some places where the quickest way of crossing a road was to get a taxi to the next U turn...

Re: The ever-improving state of Hua Hin's roads

Yes, I often use Soi 88 to get into town from Nong Khon and it's in pretty good condition at the moment.

Re: OBD2 FAULT/CODE READER

I have colleagues who play around with this stuff and they use a WiFi OBD2 reader combined with unofficial manufacturers software downloaded onto a laptop. Apparently you can find software for most cars available on the net.

Re: Looking for an alternative to True

I got rid of True because we weren't really watching TV anymore after getting broadband internet but I never had any problems with paying, we had it for about three years and it was the same price every month.

Re: Bintabaat shut down at 12.15 by masked police!

I saw police looking in bins and plant pots in town last night so maybe there are some security concerns over the holiday period. I think I'll start early to avoid disappointment, some Thai's behind my house started at eight this morning and I'm feeling left out!

Re: Thai Food Around the World

In Germany, they have a thing called an imbiss, which is a snack bar often in a small hut at the side of the road. There are now many Thai ones and they basically do quick, street food type meals which I found much more similar to what I eat in Thailand compared with what you got in more formal Thai...

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

I don't mind the temperature, I was fixing airplanes in the snow a week ago but I'm getting a bit bored with this almost constant light rain.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

The only upside to this weather is that the cold makes one of my Thai dogs do a brilliant impression of Scooby-Doo seeing a ghost, although I'm not sure he appreciates the joke!

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

Yes, it's miserable, I've been here since Monday evening and it's been chilly with light rain. I've been to Hua Hin every Christmas for about 15 years and I don't remember it ever being this bad before.

Re: Iceland in Villa Market

The last time I spent some time in the UK, I discovered their "boil in the bag" frozen kippers and smoked haddock, which made an excellent quick and easy hot breakfast when I had to get to work early in the mornings.

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

The last time I came in a couple of months a go, it had all been rolled into one, those ASEAN boards are still there but they don't mean anything, it just says "Foreign passports" on the illuminated signs below and everyone is using them.

Re: Thailand Tourist Friendly?

Yes, many of my colleagues visit Thailand and they seem to be happy with the experience but they generally do it as married couples staying in upmarket resort hotels which means they don't really notice all the negative stuff that residents do. Certainly they're not riding motorbikes in National Par...
