Re: The History of Southeast Asia

The scene in A Now where they eat with the French family was edited out of the original version. Later they released a 'Directors cut, about 20+min longer with that scene in. It really improved the movie, gave it some perspective. With regard to that, I found this website that has a bit about that s...

Re: Absurd Thai laws list

There's one from long ago concerning boat accidents and throwing coconuts, the life saving device of the day. It goes something like if an important passenger falls into the water the assigned boat crew is to throw the coconut lifesaving device. If you miss the mark and the person in the wa...

Re: 100-strong force raids 2 luxury beach homes in Hua Hin

A couple of months ago, I was walking the beach between Khao Takiap and Khao Tao and noticed a number of new houses, either on Army land or adjacent to it. These were very affluent beachfront type places and whether they are the ones in the article above or not, I was left wondering why public serva...

Re: Hua Hin hotels push airport redevelopment

Another pertinent point is how fast a future improved rail link to Bangkok might be, if it was anything like a proper high speed train, developing the airport wouldn't really make a lot of sense from a business point of view.

Re: DSI impounds 60 supercars, mostly Lamborghinis.

You have to be excessively keen on giving the government money to own one of these cars! "For example, a Lamborghini imported in April 2010 and seized from Niche Cars Group was declared at US$105,000, or about 3.4 million baht, which is subject to a 328% tax, or 11 million baht. But based on the Ita...

Re: ThaiExpatTV,ExPatPremiumTV & 365Sport Problems

We now need to hope that somebody sees a business opportunity, and legitimately brings us a similar service (yes, I've got alternatives, but I'd rather go back to what we had - it was so easy). Sky will ditch the dish with all-streaming Sky Q from 2018 https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3003...

Re: ThaiExpatTV,ExPatPremiumTV & 365Sport Problems

Apparently, Sky's deal with the Premiership means that they're paying 10 million pounds a game for TV rights which is hard to justify if all the fans would rather watch it on dodgy Internet streams.

i guess they feel it insults their holy place, i dont think that parisseans would like restaurants up against Notre Dame or British people like them up against Westminster Abbey or other churches.. Re: Finance advice - investment accounts in Thailand

open an investment acct. in the u.s. and do a monthly transfer, via Bangkok bank u.s. to Bangkok bank Thailand. it's about $35 per transfer. if you can do it less than monthly then you'll save some money. do not invest in Thailand it's a black hole. Yes, you can do the same in the UK, I run part of...

Re: [ADVERTORIAL] Thai Expat TV

Possibly this recent European Court of Justice ruling will have an effect on streamers such ThaiExpatTV. Depends on by what mechanism they pick up the streams I suppose, and whether the country in which they pick up the streams is affected by the ruling. https://www.ip-watch.org/2017/04/28/european...

Re: Demolition of restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road

Yes, I first started coming to Hua Hin in 2003 and restaurants were set up on that pavement every evening, I remember sitting outside the old Hogsbreath bar watching them being built about six, (and watching them being dismantled later if it was a late one!). When I was back about a month ago, I not...

Re: Honda HRV availability in Hua Hin

I bought one over a year ago and the only models available were 1800 petrol. I got it for my partner and I don't drive it all that much but it has an incredibly good gearbox, a constantly variable automatic that is beautifully smooth.

That's because every time you go to a mall, you have to buy your partner a new pair of shoes and that is not anywhere near my definition of "fun".

Re: News of the Weird - this just in!

I found this while looking for the "Brenda from Bristol" general election story: 103 year old says she wishes she'd got drunk more Sprightly Iris Essary celebrated her 103rd birthday with prosecco - and said her biggest regret in life was not getting drunk more. Described by family as "fiercely inde...
