Re: Mobile phone blockers in Hua Hin?

. A bit harsh if someone is having a heart attack in the next carriage and people are trying to phone ahead for an ambulance!
Or if you have a heart attack and don't have time to turn it off!

But would you want one with a Thai manufactured battery, the present ones are rubbish
Presumably if a mainstream manufacturer like Toyota or Honda introduced an EV, they would find a decent battery, wherever it was made.

Re: Electric Cars

Yes, the vast majority of my driving in Thailand is to town and back which is a round trip of just over 20km so an EV would be ideal for that if they were available.

Re: Electric Cars

I'm surprised by how many taxi companies are turning to electric vehicles here in Europe, walking past the rank outside the airport in Luxembourg there are always a couple of Tesla's, quite a few Nissan Leafs and whole fleets of Prius hybrids.

Re: Massive exodus from Bangkok - 7 deadly days of Songkran begin

This "7 Deadly Days" thing is a myth. According to the yearly road death figures, then actually it's safer to drive around during these major holiday times than it is to do so normally by about 5-10% due to the police actually being forced into doing their job more actively than usual due to politi...

Re: Shark Attack - Had Sai Noi

When I went rubbernecking a couple of days ago, it was already quite an attraction at the temple with film crews and locals waiting for the daily visit by the sharks. As for the water off the temple wall, it's probably the clearest I've seen in this area. Not as good as the South of Thailand, but f...

Re: New pedestrian overpass for Market Village

If you use the next bridge, the one by the entrance to the Catholic school, don't pay too much attention to the riser height of the steps as you'll then knock your head on a concrete beam!

Is the water throwing still going on today? It was fun yesterday but I want to go out and stay dry!

Re: Things you had better get used to living in Thailand

Now that I spend a third of the year here, I seem to have become more tolerant to it, I used to have to use air conditioning to sleep but I've been here for a few weeks now and haven't used it once.

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

I remember in previous years there was some discussion about how the figures were calculated. I believe only those dying at the scene of the accident were counted, not those that died of their injuries later, so the figure is many times higher. Many obviously get killed in the mayhem of traveling h...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

And the current headline in the Bangkok Post,,,,,,,,,,, "39 DIE ON DAY ONE",,,,,,,,,,,,,,its similar i guess to winning medals in the current Commonwealth Games,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,absolutely SAD. Incredible as it may seem, 39 in a day is actually below average as over 20,000 die on Thai roads every year!

Re: Alcohol ban on Hua Hin and Thai beaches?

I was walking the beach a couple of hours ago and I see at least one of these signs has been put up again, in front of the Hilton next to where the beach restaurants would be if it wasn't a Wednesday.

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

I have reminded myself why I drive as little as possible and prefer to use only two wheels on the roads here in lunaticland. Aren't something like 75% of fatalities on motorcycles? The reason so many people die on the roads in Thailand seems to me to be a simple combination of high motorcycle use a...
