Travel insurance - check the small print..

My annual multi-trip travel insurance renewal came through yesterday - with no overt suggestion that anything material had changed in the cover, but I clocked that the premium had gone down on a year ago.. So, poring through the small print I noticed that the maximum trip length had reduced from 90 ...

Re: Rip off ATMs at airports

I mostly use TransferWise. Same sort of thing Not quite.. - TransferWise (I use SAT Worldwide..) looks like one of the outfits that moves money from your home A/C into your Thai one without taking the sort of cut the banks rake off. CurrencyClub delivers actual currency to your home address before ...

Re: Rip off ATMs at airports

I have an account with Bangkok Bank and all theirs are actually outside where you get the bus or taxi. Interesting (I also use BB) - in the absence of a 'proper' ATM at BKK I was toying with the idea of getting my first tranche of Baht from these people: www.thecurrencyclub.co.uk - But have never u...

Can you take them past security? I know you can't bring drinks.
Usually - yes..

Re: Is that your bag sir?

When you buy luggage, don't choose a black one - you'll find find yourself in the midst of the scrum staring intently at almost every bloody bag as it comes round the carousel.. If you pick one that's a bright canary yellow, you can stand at the back of the crowd and wait patiently. Aside from that,...

Rip off ATMs at airports

During my travels since my last trip to the LoS I have noticed the sudden appearance of rip-off ATMs at airports. Essentially what is happening is that the regular bank ATMs are getting removed from the arrival facilities at airports to be replaced by 'specialist' ones that offer a really lousy exch...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

Now i think i'll hop in a taxi everytime, seems silly to save 2000Bahts when i'v just spent 45000+ on airfare Yes.. - 'airport loose wallet syndrome' - I'm as guilty as anyone, and the airports cash in massively.. People will pay prices for food at airports that they would flatly refuse to pay anyw...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

I want to book the bus in advance. Do you know if I can change the ticket if I come earlier or if I am delayed? There is a bus leaving at 13.30 or 15. Which one should I book? At busier times the buses are fully booked, so there is limited scope for changing tickets at the last moment. Booking two ...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

I just sit outside, have my cigarette and a few beers. If I have to wait for two hours, well it doesn't bother me. You must be easily pleased! The waiting area round the bus desk has to be the dreariest part of the whole complex - and they don't make it easy to get back in and find a bar - especial...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

Surprised that you check a bag UT. several of my friends who come once or twice a year have a bag of HH clothes that they leave here.
I could do that, but I always bring over a couple of bottles from my cellar, which I can't take in the cabin..

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

due at 15.05 Interesting - made me double check. FlightAware currently gives the departure time from LHR as 21.20 arriving BKK 15.25 - and running frequently late Re-checking my booking the departure time is also 21.20 but is quoting an ETA of 15.45 - 20 minutes later.. Was your departure time also...

Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

The problem with getting a bus from BKK to HH is that they tend to sell out their seats - so you need to book ahead - but then they don't refund or re-book you if your flight is delayed. So.. am arriving 1/1/18 on BR68 which is scheduled for 15.25 but has been averaging 20-30 mins late recently. I c...

Re: Ladyboy Bars

Once they know you're not afraid of them, they don't bother you so much. Most LBs are pretty messed up in the grey matter department - there are some trans men in Thailand with serious jobs, but those who work in bars are mostly head cases to a lesser or greater extent. Some are docile souls who ju...

An ancient tradition - with a touch of humour..

It's Chinese New Year, and as usual, Puy who owns the Romantic Bar set out the best display of Buddha offerings in Soi Bintabaht. Also, as usual, I was given the task of lighting the cracker string. Then came the burning of the paper money - a cellophane wrapped kit containing paper coins, paper ban...
