Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

It is ironic. One of the few advantages of a military dictatorship is that they can make huge changes immediately if they have the will. this thread is interesting but the answer to the question asked in the heading is---- There will be no change.

to huahin4ever-- Its not a case of 'needing a budget' Its not poverty that drives careful spending. Its just a quest for relative value for money

Re: Why aren't there bars like this in Hua Hin?

I have to agree with Handdrummer, people in the US south are very friendly to other southerners but they are very tribal and not too friendly to outsiders. You can be fooled by the superficial greetings etc ("Y'all come round and see us anytime y'all") I found New England to be far more welcoming.

Norseman--- It is not compulsory for people reading the forum to open every thread. Read the threads that you enjoy and omit any that you find distasteful.

Those little planes can bring another 20 tourists on each flight, better tell the bars and restaurants to hire more staff.

Re: Why aren't there bars like this in Hua Hin?

I dont think any of us think that we can be integrated into Thai society. I cannot think of one Asian country where that is possible, not even S'pore the most 'western' country. Its not even 'Separate but Equal" that we would like and expect. Its just the ability to be in the same place at the same ...

Re: Ex-communists pocket cash benefits in Thai amnesty deal

Many of the Asian rebel groups called themselves Communists as that way they got arms from Russia and China. They had little in the way of Marxist philosophy in their motivation--they were nationalists who hated the existing governments, Deja vue???

Re: Ex-communists pocket cash benefits in Thai amnesty deal

OK, I see your point. But its nor going to work when the Chinese come calling.

I am reminded of a Peter Sellars movie years ago "The mouse that roared" A small euro country declared war on the US knowing that if they lost the US would rehab them, but of course ----------

That is the Thai military's idea of a success story---buying off the rebels

Re: The Beer Thread

You seem to imply that all beers have some roasted barley in the mix. I thought that only Stouts (or porters) used roasted barley. Other critical differences are the Temp at which the process is conducted and whether top or bottom fermenting yeasts are used-- these differences cause the division int...

Re: El Toro Loco bar closed?

Many people like to watch sporting events in the company of other sports fans. Even if they can get it at home they like to go to the pubs to watch. In HH the 2 Irish bars Murphs and Father Teds get big crowds for Rugby games. You get used to either no commentary or a difficult to hear one and you g...

Re: El Toro Loco bar closed?

the operators of bars in soi 80- must be happy, but i guess they are smart enough to know that what happened in the centre of town could happen to them too.
As for BB, what about a huge shopping centre full of Indian tailor and optician shops
