Re: Anyone know if I need to have Thai driving licence to get car insurance ?

Some basic questions such as can you drive? do you already have a licence? what country are you from etc need to be answered before anybody can answer that question.

There are test centres in Pranburi and Cha-Am.

Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents

One of the two vehicles was an Isuzu pickup with 14 people on board.  Thanawut Makphol, 33, the driver, his wife and son were in the truck's front section, and 11 others were sitting in the back tray . When the vehicles collided all of those sitting in the back were thrown out onto the road.  One o...

Re: Songkran 2017

An interesting concept. Were you confined to your hotel, or could you enjoy the delights of one of my favourite Thai destinations, Kanchanaburi? If the former, did you really have to travel all of that way to avoid getting wet?

Re: New Hua Hin Songthaew Service

No, but find a taxi driver you like (I keep 5 numbers on my phone i.e. Taxi 1, Taxi 2 etc), and ask for his/her card. He will gladly pick you up wherever you need him (or her) from.

Re: Sam Roi Yot Killing/Fire

Yes, life is cheap here. I saw the photos yesterday.

The local news was also running the story of another killing at Kuiburi yesterday, where a 5 year old girl was caught in the crossfire when 2 families were feuding. Absolutely crazy.

Re: Kan Air starting new route between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai

Thinking about it. As far as I know, the Airbus would be the first scheduled jet to use Hua Hin (in my 5 years here - at least I've only used propeller aircraft). Maybe it could be the start of something bigger - it's such a shame that we don't have more flights here.

Re: Kan Air starting new route between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai

Thanks guys, that isn't very different to what they told me at the Kan Air desk yesterday. I think replacing the ATR 72-500 with an Airbus would see the airline lose some of it's charm, but it's reassuring to know that they don't fly faulty aircraft.

Re: The scourge of Facebook

There are times when things have to be withheld from the public eye. In this case the article was about the presence of terrorists active in the area. If the authorities were in active pursuit of the criminals, I can understand not wanting to give them the upper hand by knowing that they are being w...

Re: Seen Space, Soi 19

I was out this way with a friend who was visiting earlier, and we called in. Still not really my kind of place, but what a beautiful transformation. We often get people on the forum looking for a public swimming pool. I've no idea what it costs, but this is certainly an option. 20170421_121009.jpg 2...

Re: Kan Air starting new route between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai

OK guys, I called into the airport this morning (hadn't seen Steve's comment). I went to the Kan Air desk and asked if the Hua Hin/Chiang Mai route was still operating. The answer was, "Yes, but not at the moment. Flights will be resuming next month." I asked why there was a break, and he said it wa...

Re: The scourge of Facebook

This is my first encounter of instant censorship. The fact is, the item still shows on my friend's page, which made him believe his post was fine. Likewise with the subsequent message, the content still shows on his version of the message. So in all cases, the poster is unaware. It was a link, which...

Re: The scourge of Facebook

Whether it's men in the Moon, Islamic terrorists or whatever; what happened was really quick. It appears on my friend's timeline for his personal viewing, but is stopped from going anywhere else. He also tried to PM the article to me. The message was received instantly, but the item was removed: Kei...
