Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

We've discussed Paypal several times - I can't open an account from Thailand. Warning bells are sounded when my bank is in the UK and I am in Thailand. Trying to use a Thai bank account for anything useful as a Farang just doesn't happen.

Re: Baggage at airports: Is that your bag sir?

The majority of Glaswegians are nice people - they can't help their accents. Yo be totally honest I seldom understand what they say. LOL, I used to go up there regularly to run training courses. Communication used to be fine between us until we stopped for a break. Once they were talking to each ot...

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

I received a worrying e-mail from Lazada yesterday. A couple of weeks ago, I'd ordered a couple of retractable dog leads - cost 392 Baht. They were being shipped from China. I paid using the counter service at Tesco. Order made, I thought no more of it, The e-mail stated: We would like to inform you...

Re: Hua Hin is starting to look a lot like Christmas

Yes, you're right. There's a large artificial tree on your left as you travel North out of town, and there's a small decoration that I've seen somewhere else (sorry don't remember where), but other years the street lights have been exceptional. In previous years the lights have been up for Fathers D...

Re: History Challenge

Am I correct to say there are no castles in Thailand: just plenty of palaces? By castle I mean fortified residences and seat of power, So what is the nearest castle or fortress to Thailand? Not sure of a definitive answer. What about towns like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Surely the wall were fortif...

Re: More demolition in Hua Hin - Chomsin road

Thank you Pleng for the clarification - I guess the map was wrong.

I've often heard people refer to Chomsin Road, and have wondered why when I look it up. You have explained a lot :thumb:

Useless comment? Genuine interest regarding which road to avoid.

Re: More demolition in Hua Hin - Chomsin road

Railway crossing/Chomsin Road? I tend to use this map when I'm not sure of a road name, and the railway doesn't go near Chomsin Road. (no idea if it's you or the map that's wrong). The way you've described it to me is the crazy railway crossing on the corner of Soi 70 and Prapokklao Road - would tha...

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

For the last week, I've been trying to order something for my son's business online. A common problem - even though the website is in English or Thai, any order in English is ignored. The order was worth 17,000 Baht (19,000 Baht according to their website :? ), so not to be sniffed at. This morning,...

Re: Knee Replacement

I don't normally have a good word for Bangkok Hospital, but I can't fault them for the 2 operations I had here in Hua Hin (nothing as major as a knee replacement though).

Re: Thai travelling to Thailand on UK passport

good point. The airlines insist that not only is the PP still valid but that you have 6 months left before it expires. One time I was in Cambodia and no one would sell me a ticket to BKK, as my pp had only 4 months to go. I had to come by bus. I was ready to offer baht at the border but got thru wi...

Re: Baggage at airports: Is that your bag sir?

I remember watching somebody walking off with my bag at Glasgow Airport. I ran after them and said they had my bag. It turned out I was correct, but the other guy's bag was identical, and arrived on the carousel soon after. Smiles and apologies, but so easily done.

Re: What's Happened To The Water in Hua Hin?

I guess it's pure luck of the draw. 6 years living just off Soi 94, and we've experienced 1 serious outage. However, because it serious, the army were coming around a couple of times a day with their water bowsers ensuring everybody had enough water. Fortunately we have a huge underground tank like ...
