Re: Thailand's coral at immediate risk from rising sea temperature, expert warns
The surface temperature was 32º in May of 2019 when the photo above was taken. As you can see, that resulted in severe bleaching of some coral. By September of the same year the surface temperature was down to 30º which was low enough for much of the coral to recover. I haven't been out this year (t...

Re: Thailand's coral at immediate risk from rising sea temperature, expert warns
Just had a look at my dive log. There was a nasty bleaching event in May of 2019 at Losin in the Gulf. The photo is a screen grab of a video I took at the time. By September when we returned to the same spot, most of the bleaching was gone.

Re: Thailand plans to decriminalize/criminalize cannabis
Cannabis permit system in pipeline “The permit system must not place an unreasonable burden on the public,” he said in a post on Facebook, adding that there would be a grace period for the public to adjust. Is it considered an unreasonable burden if we're required to present a copy of our "per...

Re: Climate change could force Thailand to move its capital
I recall reading there were some issues over land ownership and that surveys had shown that some of the land commandeered, wasn't suitable to be used for an elevated road, which meant they had to re-route some plans, commandeer more land etc. This is completely baffling to me as they started survey...

Re: Climate change could force Thailand to move its capital
It would probably move to Korat. It's on a very high plateau with zero risk of sinking. Part of the new motorway to Korat that they are building by hand, very slowly, concrete slab, by concrete slab, is finally open, but only from/to Pak Chong (to Korat) and the high speed rail is taking shape, wel...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I'm jumping into this thread without having reviewed all 127 pages except for a few from this year. We decided to get a new car late last year to replace our 10 year old Toyota Vios. I was leaning toward an EV until my wife needed to travel to Prachin Buri. I went along for the ride. Late in the dri...

Re: Major Economic Issues For Thailand
And yesterdays offering from Chratchai Parasuk is quite sobering reading as well. Interesting factual data about reduced tourist spending, despite the numbers now visiting. https://www.bangkokpost.com/opinion/opinion/2762229/structural-flaws-impede-our-economy I always look forward to his column. W...

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread
I gave up years ago on doing it online, it's so quick and easy to pop in to main immigration as I live nearby I've only had one failure in quite a few years now. As I recall, that one failure was due to what Immigration said was a missing TM30. Until recently, the only browser that we could get to ...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
Oh yes, great morning viewing that segment. I'd say 80% of the carnage is caused by the scooters not looking where they're going I was cycling down Naratip in Cha Am yesterday when, at the intersection with Chao Lai, a motorcyclist, obviously not looking, sped out from Chao Lai missing my rear whee...

Not sure if this has been mentioned before. Nite Hunter has a new-to-me IPA. The ABV is 6.8% with an IBU of 45. I like it. I still like the M32 IPA better, but this is pretty good. As expected, it's brewed in Chachoengsao by Thai Spirit Industries. I bought the last two that Lotus's Cha Am had on di...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
I'm surprised nobody has actually posted any info from the RD on what is expected. RD will be looking at all income from overseas, Thais and expats (anyone residing here 180 days of the year) <snip> In other words, nothing has changed except the bit about when the income is earned. Those of us with...

The pm lives in Lala land. Ganga had been available practically everywhere from years ago. My first trip up in 1979/80, any hotel bellboy worth his salt could get you some. People have short memories, don't they. It wasn't so long ago that the tobacco ladies at most fresh markets kept a tin of ganj...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Yes, I think that is my understanding. The only grey area for me is if I were to transfer the remaining 30K in year 2, together with year 2's 50K. I am assuming the 30K from year 1 would be taxable in year 2. That's the way I see it. In any event, it seems that it will be somewhat of a nightmare to...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
I've read a bunch and am still a bit baffled. Here's portion of the text of the US agreement: 1. Subject to the provisions of paragraph 2 of Article 21 (Government Service), pensions and other similar remuneration paid to a resident of a Contracting State in consideration of past employment shall be...
