Re: The state of Soi 102

I have always found 102 a good safe route away from traffic for cyclists wanting to get the other side of the hill without having the initial challenge or either 88, Pala U or the other road past Da Vinci school. Also a chance to get the 4x4 dirty although it gets a bit narrow before you reach the n...

Re: Diesel particulate filters

There is also, in the 407's case, a rather nasty chemical that is a fuel borne catalyst designed to aid regeneration of particulate filters fitted to diesel vehicles It was possible to remove the particulate filter and just put a through pipe but apart from modifying the exhaust this would involve m...

Re: Diesel particulate filters

I had a Peugeot 407 Coupe with the twin turbo diesel engine, same as in some Range Rovers, Jags etc fitted with a particulate filter and to be honest it was an expensive waste although better for the environment. It needed regular runs at a consistent high speed for about 15 minutes to regenerate or...

Re: A few online Thai Language starting points

It may be an old thread but has given a link to, I think, the book that started my own education in the Thai language. Way back in the early nineties I used 'The Fundamentals of the Thai Language' to learn some Thai while away at work and then learn how to actually pronounce the words correctly once...

Re: MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix, Oct 2018

Although the tickets are not expensive the biggest problem will be finding a place to stay if you want to be close to the circuit. All the good hotel rooms are already snapped up by the package dealers at extortionate prices. Probably best to make a holiday based in Korat and drive in on the days in...

Re: danger or fear mongering?

If you are want to rent a scooter it is probably best to limit yourself to daytime riding initially to get familiar with the area. Even after years here I avoid driving at night unless I have to. Taxi's are not expensive for evening excursions and if you want a drink with your meal they are a much s...

Re: Looking for an alternative to True

I sympathise with Big Boy as I cancelled our True service for the very same reasons. What really did it for me was getting a number and when it came up someone jumped in. I had to practically force to wife to question it only for her to be told to wait and then when she talked and told them she was ...

Re: The i-things - Apple devices and software thread

So is this slowing down on older iStuff also affecting older iPads. My iPad Mini version 1 won't even take the latest OS but it certainly seems to have slowed down. Tried resetting it and still as slow. It still has a fair amount of memory as I moved all the photos and videos out. Perhaps it is a pe...

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

In response to Uncle Tom's post, the cost will vary considerably between the extent of cover, your age and history. If you are interested I would recommend you visit or contact Matt at AA insurance, one of the forums sponsors. As a healthy late fifties person I was quoted over 2,000 euros with one c...

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

A good point there by 404cameljockey and thank you for raising it. Despite 'living' in Hua Hin for many years I work abroad and rarely spend more than two months at a time there due to work, work related courses and holidays. This has meant that I have only once had a 'Retirement' O-A stamp where re...

Re: Pros & Cons of Kite Surfing

My only experience of any kind of surfing was trying to wind surf on a fairly calm new years day on Hua Hin beach. Comical is probably the best description and more entertaining to any onlookers than dangerous as I was hardly able to stand up let alone move in any direction. It did however make me t...

Re: Thailand Tourist Friendly?

Is Thailand Tourist Friendly, yes, not as much as it used to be for sure but it is still tourist friendly. The regulations both real and perceived seem to grow but most tourists will enjoy their holiday having found the prices cheap despite being ripped off, the places beautiful despite paying ten t...

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

I have had quite a lot of items delivered that were ordered online from various sources. Kerry has been very good throughout and normally phones the wife before the delivery is made. The regular driver knows our place and the estate guard is a good guy who will take delivery if we are out. Also had ...

Re: Asia's first Holiday Inn water park resort opens in Hua Hin

Considering the cost of entry into the waterpark it is probably worth considering staying a couple of nights at if you have a family. I have not checked the cost but Holiday Inn's are not usually that expensive.
