Re: Snakes in the garden

I heard about the ultrasonic snake repellers from australia and was going to get for Hong Kong, except it works by vibrations through the ground that scare snakes away and our fall into the garden from the trees and did not want a demented snake fearing for its life trapped in the back garden! I do ...

Re: Beware of currency exchange scam near police Station

I must admit to not really understanding the scam. If they had swapped out a 50 they would have left it there and been happy to be 50 up, so why then involve the police to make it messy (unless they were part of the scam in which case they would want money not to press charges and want to see the ba...

Re: Movies at Hua Hin Cinema

Saw Hansel and Gretel in HK a few days ago and worth the effort, with decent 3D effects. Django unchained the best of the bunch at the moment and it didn't feel like 2 hrs 45 mins (although it is!) which has to be a good sign

Re: GBP vs THB

The first graph should be Euro/pound rather than the other way around, but the rates seem accurate and therefore the weakening pound is clear against both currencies. Of course if the pound does get much weaker they will likely have to reverse the sign and the graph as it is normal to show the rate ...

Re: More hassle for bar-owners..

There are similar rules in hong Kong about not having tables and chairs on the pavement or public areas outside bars/restaurants. These are often enforced in large pedestrian only areas where they would add to the charm rather than inconvenience and so the Thais are not alone in enforcing such rules.

Re: GBP vs THB

We are in the sad state of affairs where every country on the planet is now waging war to have a weaker currency to help it deal with low growth. UK is no exception and based on the most insipid recovery on the planet we can expect the government to subtly encourage further losses. Sad but true

Re: Airport VIP Bus to and from Hua Hin

I used this service both from and to the airport and it was comfortable and good value. With the traffic at the toll the advertised time of 3 hours is optimistic and i would assume nearer 4 most times. It was more than half full both ways and so would assume it will continue and I will certain want ...

Hello

I have joined the forum as a way to become more knowledgeable of Hua Hin life (pitfalls, opportunities etc) as we continue to contemplate decisions or where to retire within Asia. Retirement is still some time off, but we have bought a small place and want to visit regularly to help make a decision....
