Re: Smoking ex-pats

MDMK, you’ve taken my point about vapers and added-in the concept of tolerance and then taken degrees of tolerance to entirely new levels. You are advocating that we need to be tolerant “to a degree”, which is a problem when taken with your other point that “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”, ...

Re: Smoking ex-pats

Mrs J.J.B., who has never smoked, commented the other day that she would rather follow someone in the street smoking a cigarette and get second-hand smoke than someone ‘vaping’ and get second-hand vapour. I tend to agree. These billowing clouds of sickly-scented vapour can make you feel quite ill an...

Re: Desiccant sachets for food?

The easiest solution would be to use rice; dried, of course! I first came across it being used in this way in the Caribbean, in a salt cellar to kept the salt from clumping together in the high humidity. It’s also used to dry out phones and suchlike that have been immersed in water. You half fill a ...

Questions: Am I mad? First, welcome to the Forum and I wish you every happiness in Thailand, whatever you choose to do. I don’t think you are mad and only recommend you put money in Thailand you are comfortable walking away from. I’m sure Saranya is lovely and trusting etc. but by all accounts some...

Re: Smoking ex-pats

There is no group more anti-smoking than the ex-smokers. Probably because there is no such thing as an ex-smoker, only a smoker who doesn’t smoke. Tobacco smoking is far more complex than physiological addiction to nicotine, there is a powerful psychological component as well that is linked with the...

Re: Diesel particulate filters

Our Discovery has an AdBlue tank but I’ve no idea where you get the stuff from. According to the manual, it needs topping-up at such lengthy intervals that it is done at service time so perhaps I can safely ignore it. The following is a discussion on the Australian LRO website, J.J.B.: https://www....

Re: Build an LED blinker circuit for my motorcycle

If you see a PCX with a Givi box on the back with plenty of LEDs, it’s probably me. Or someone’s stolen my ride. :thumb: So was it you riding slowly down Soi 94 just after El Toro Loco just before lunchtime today? I was trying to determine if the lights on the Givi were indicating right or left as ...

Re: Build an LED blinker circuit for my motorcycle

I applaud the industry, I nearly melted in the heat just fitting an LED system to my moped. I fitted a pre-made system that I’d imported from the US via the UK. More details here https://admorelighting.com/photo-gallery/ If you see a PCX with a Givi box on the back with plenty of LEDs, it’s probably...

Re: British Embassy in Bangkok To Be Sold Off

Australia has recently done the same thing, so it is not just the British Embassy. I lived and worked in New York between 2005/06 and my office building also housed the Australian Embassy and High Commission. We were close to the UN, on E 42nd St, so surrounded by similar outposts of foreign states...

Re: DSLR camera servicing and cleaning in Hua Hin

Since so much of Nikon’s line-up is manufactured in Thailand, you’d hope to find some capable technicians who may have been trained by them. Is it worth giving the factory in Ayuthaya a call?

Re: Airbus A380 superjumbo saved from extinction by Emirates

...no A380 in the sky today has ever met the fuel consumption figures that Airbus initially quoted Jet A-1 fuel is probably one of the things the Middle East airlines care less about, not least because they are almost all state-sponsored too. I wonder if the whole spat was a ruse to get Airbus to c...
